Upgrade Contract - Development Log #460

Michi talks about the contract formed by an upgrade motion and managing construction stores.

You can find the full issue of the development log here.

The upgrade contract appears to have a time element (in your example - 31 days). What happens to the goods in the construction store if it is not completed in time? Does the government have an option to extend the contract? Are the goods lost if they don’t?

Excellent question, we just talked about that in yesterday’s meeting.

The construction store and its materials are owned by the player until all required materials are present and the construction is completed. In case the contract breaches (due to a failing payment condition or the contractor failing to provide all materials), the construction/upgrade project fails. In this case the materials stay in the construction store and in the possession of the contractor.

The construction store will switch to a remove-only mode where no new materials can be added. Once all materials are removed, the store will be removed automatically.

If that’s the case, whilst I doubt anyone would do it as it would most likely only be given to trusted and large players, couldn’t it lead to potentially disastrous pirating if the contractor gets to keep the resources?

Yes, there is always some risk involved with contracts. But as you said, we strongly believe that the large infrastructure contracts will go to trusted players.
