The current game has become unfun. Please delete my account

Two years ago, I burnt out on governing. The mechanics of it are not fun. The mechanics of it are not fun. It is something that I can endure for short periods of time provided that I can trust the other players there to do some of the work.

For those two years I largely played the game as one of slow growth and shipping. Playing each night without concerning myself with the rest of the players or politics was relaxing.

Since coming back I’ve had to take up governing to help identify and resolve some issues… and previously, as I said that was something that I could trust the other players. The policy differences of subsidized POPI vs Festival and was one I could tolerate.

Unfortunately, I can’t do that anymore. The game is no longer one of trust and helping other people build their castles in the economic sandbox of the game. There are people who are now directly dedicated to tearing that down and sowing distrust. For them, in order to have fun they must tear down other players, exploit them, or have those players support them and their way of play.

For me, that means that I have to play the governor game more in order to be able to maintain the castles that I’ve enjoyed making.. and I don’t like that - locking down things and being forced into playing the game their way or joining them.

I can’t do those… nor can I go back to quietly producing and shipping as then I become one of the exploited.

It’s a stressful chore to play the game now with any level of exposure to planetary takeovers and the distrust of who can run the planet without trying to make the game unfun for everyone who hasn’t joined them.

Thus, I chose none of them. Please, delete my account.

I had a fun run with you! From racing to vote on CoGCs to bouncing various spreadsheet or Government mechanics off each other. Sorry that things have gone they way they have in-game! :o

Hate to see you go man. But i do agree, with the current government setup, the next era has a high chance of killing the game’s chill vibe and community as people develop hostilities at each other.

I’ll chime in as part of the hate-to-see-you-goes too. I hope it doesn’t get as bad as you fear, as I certainly wouldn’t enjoy that environment either.

I’m sorry we couldn’t do more, sooner, faster for you Shagie.

All the best <3

Keeping your space warm for you, should you decide to return my friend

I’ve removed my original post

i would really say the one attention seeking is the one who shows up to a goodbye and says i dont know you, stop being a victim in a massive wall of text. This is a place for friends to say goodbye, not a place to try to victim shame.

Some people do infact request to have their account deleted and is a normal thing on the forums.

Tough decision, but someone had to write it. You have my respect.
(I also have this feeling about about community in the game. I have been following and supporting the game for 6 years, but what is happening now is very stressful and has a bitter aftertaste.)

Certainly not trying to victim shame anyone. I’m positing that one cannot really be victimized in a fictional world in a video game - (edit: I retract my statement here. It’s not factually true and I didn’t consider the full meaning of what I was saying here before writing this sentence. I should have been clearer in my meaning and more careful in my words. Apologies to anyone who has actually suffered cyberbullying or the sort). I don’t know shagie so there’s probably a lot of context I’m missing which is why I acknowledged that off the get go. And the reason I invested the time to write the wall of text as you call it is because I didn’t just want to come in and start blasting, I wanted to justify my view and add context of its own. And also offer support too by the way.

A public forum is also not exactly a place for friends to say good bye either btw. But we can skip over that part.

Responding to the original post - I’m sorry you feel it’s inappropriate. I’m not trying to offend anyone. But I felt it important enough to share my thoughts that I actually spent some time writing out that post. From my perspective, I find that all this Euu business was kind of inevitable once the game reached a certain scale. Eventually if you run the numbers often enough you will end up with this. I just don’t think we have to make such a big deal out of it and certainly shouldn’t allow it to affect our IRL wellbeing. Some things aren’t fair. And like in Shagie’s case, I’m sorry that this is all causing you undue stress. Ultimately all we can do is control our own reactions to things. We cannot control others or their actions. Injustice wins when it can infect you. It loses when it cannot spread. And I think, whether I’m right or wrong, that Shagie’s post is just reinforcing FOXV’s effect on the game and the community. You are welcome to disagree with that. If all opinions aren’t welcome, perhaps this shouldn’t have been a public forum post.

“I’m positing that one cannot really be victimized in a fictional world in a video game.” love that statement because it defends cyberbullying in games.

probably the best situation to coming to a forum where you see someone leaving and a bunch of people saying goodbye, isnt to make a post calling out the original poster as a crybaby. The best situation here is just to not break rule 1 (dont be a dick) and not post anything. You posted that knowing it would piss off people because it was in direct oppisition to what was being posted in the forum so far.

“But I felt it important enough to share my thoughts that I actually spent some time writing out that post.” Why must you put your thoughts on every forum? you dont need to respond to everything that happens. (this is something i have to remind myself all the time)

Calling Shagie out here wasn’t the move here if you are trying to not reinforce FOXV’s effect, infact it reinforces it even more due to now there being a conflict in here they find funny and fulfilling. You have effectively turned a good bye forum that was asking for MOLP to do something into an argument that should not have been here.

In the calling out of Shagie you have reinforced the notion that they put forward that the community is now “dedicated to tearing that down and sowing distrust.” Congratz you proved the situation that caused this.

“The game is no longer one of trust and helping other people build their castles in the economic sandbox of the game”

  • I took issue with this because I think it is very far from the truth and paints a picture of the game and its community that could leave some newer players reading this with a false impression of the state of the game.

“For me, that means that I have to play the governor game more in order to be able to maintain the castles that I’ve enjoyed making.”

  • Comes off as self aggrandizement to me. Like he has to come in and be the savior as though there was nobody else that can or would.

“I can’t do those… nor can I go back to quietly producing and shipping as then I become one of the exploited.”

  • This is a false dichotomy that again some other players might interpret as meaning if you aren’t involved politically then really you have no power and must just allow yourself to be exploited.

I think these are legitimate concerns. Perhaps I could have worded my post more carefully. I am known for being blunt sometimes. We can disagree on what effect “calling shagie out” has or doesn’t have. I’m not trying to be a dick, although admittedly I wasn’t exactly being very diplomatic in my wording either.

I don’t see this as a good bye letter. I see it as a sacrificial protest. If Shagie had just said “Due to recently developments in the game and the direction the the gameplay itself is evolving I no longer find the game as fun as I used to and can’t justify spending more time on something that has only become a stress point in my life recently. I’m looking to have my account deleted. Good bye friends”, I would have taken this a completely different way.

And just to confirm I did not post to piss people off. But seeing as at least some have found my post unwelcome, I’ll edit the post to nothing and just leave this response which I think adequately communicates a lot of the substance of what I was trying to say. I am sorry that my words have caused you and others distress.

it seems you are still willing to argue this out and i am no longer willing to keep stomping on a place ment to be a goodbye. he gave his reasons for leaving in the post, if you find issue with it, calling him out wont do anything as he is already gone and just proving his point. I will no longer be posting on this forum thread.

I would also suggest that if, when, you have cause to write a wall of text, you break it into paragraphs <3

Edit: As last poster, in a closed thread, RIP shagie, long live shagie.

I will look after Greenland for you :heart::heart::heart::heart:
