For what it’s worth, I would like to reiterate my suggestion that planet and “class” (starting package) selection be more integrally tied together. This means that you get a list of suggested starting packages based on the planet you are choosing.
I strongly believe that this would simplify the new company creation process by:
- Taking away bad choices. It’s far too easy for a player to decide that they want to be a fuel engineer or manufacturer, and then not have sufficient information to choose a good planet to start on.
- Ensure that only good choices can be made. By tying starting packages to planets we can ensure that the options are always viable.
- Distribute starting players in a more reasonable way. Right now with the limited choices of starting packages there are only 1 or 2 planets for each of them that actually make sense. The obvious choices end up pushing the majority of players into metallurgy or farming, often to Montem or Promitor.
- Provide a larger variety of starting packages with more clearly defined purposes that are tied integrally to the planet that the player chooses, giving the player a clear and achievable goal in their initial building phase.
- Give the player more specific feedback about how difficult that specific starting package/planet will be and a more realistic market demand for that specific combination.
- Reduce the necessity for “advanced starts” - where players pick a starting package and planet and then do something completely and totally different.
In this example up to 3 starter packages (perhaps only 1 or 2 for some more niche worlds) would be suggested for each planet, and the player can easily rotate through the planets to see the various starting options.
I am 100% certain that the community would be extremely interested in assisting with the curating and balancing of starting packages for the various starter worlds.
