Also, there is no single “orbit” to address. A ship that flies into orbit basically gets a random orbit address. That is exactly the reason why even when two of your ships are in orbit they cannot transfer materials or fuel to one another: the orbits don’t match.
To fix this, I’ll introduce a new way to address infrastructure in orbit, very similar to the way we already do it with stations.
Is this a step toward being able to make a ship’s orbit the destination of an other ship? (eg. to transfer fuel or other items)
We could add this functionality, but the focus surely lies on making infrastructure in orbit working correctly.
Not sure, what do you think: how often would it be handy to allow ships to rendevouz in orbit?
I don’t think I would use it myself, but we occasionally see people with their ship stuck in orbit with no fuel, and they have to message you to get it unstuck.
Some player with several planets in system might also want to send a large ship from an other system (eg. a CX) without landing it, and transfer items between it and STL-only shuttles that would take care of distributing to the rest of the system. If I recall correctly, @boom_badda_boom does something like this, but he has to land his large ship on a planet every time to transfer to the shuttles.
