Proposal on Government Size

Given other issues - I would like to propose another way to manage some things. For small planets, if the government size is only 2 people, then the one who gets in ‘first’ and is the governor can actually control the planet because the governor vote will break any ties. I would like to propose that the minimum government size be increased to 3 so that the governor can always be overruled if both other member of parliament vote against them (or abstain).

Part of this would also be making sure there was no cap on the number of governments you could be part of (ie no change to current rule).

That doesn’t work with the current voting system: if 90% are for candidate 1 but only 10% are for condidate 2 and 3 they still have the majorits which in return forces more people to run.
And that “running just to fill parliaments” is already getting on my nerves as I am now on 11 planets, governing on 8 (because there is shortage on govs) and the other 3 just to fill seats, which means more notification that I don’t care about.

I would have no problem with bigger parliaments if the voting system would be “everyone has one vote and this vote is represented as motion weight for the person receiving the vote” which would also incentivise actual politics instead of pure defensive behavior. You could even say that the seats are unlimited but you need at least 5 or 10 % of the total votes to get in.

Yeah, I was just looking at an unnamed small planet and noticing that the motions were all passed because the GOV voted yes, the other member voted no - and the motions passed because I guess the GOV vote carries more weight. So I was wondering about a way to fix this issue.

At that size the planets have one gov and one person that can check the books, so the small planets are ruled by the person getting the most votes and the opposition can keep an eye on what is going on. I don’t see where a problem is there, especially because these planets generally only have a few bases on them and there is no need for complex politics, at best a simple yes/no which can be done through the election.

And of course again, the current voting system doesn’t support more than rudimentary politics whcih will hopefully be done with the next big update.
