Sometimes I want to write a few sentences about why do I create a certain motion – be it for fellow parliament members, planet citizens, or just as a note to future self. I think it will be a great idea to add such a field to every motion, visible to everyone – this way governors can convey their reasoning to the people, and people, if interested, can understand the motivation behind government decisions. Another plus side is that it will be a very easy to implement feature
And I’ve seen quite some governors trying to keep people informed on why do they run certain motions, and what has happened in the last POPR/governmental period – so I think this feature will be used by a fair share of governments across the universe.
I understand that there’s a “name” field that can convey some meaning, but I do still insist on having a separate one, because:
- The “name” field is too limited: it has a very strict character limit, and cannot have line breaks.
- The “name” field is meant to be something short – something you see in a list of motions in current governmental period, or in a notification about new motion being passed – whereas the proposed “description” is something that should be visible only if you’ve opened a particular motion details.
For example, I often name my motions in a very concise manner – so that you can understand what’s inside without actually looking inside. But at the same time I often want to explain in some detail, why the motion is as it is – why I ran this particular program, or why have I changed the POPI levels, or what the money is being paid for, exactly.
