I’m really excited to see more uses for RE coming in the pipeline! Alternate recipes add a lot to the game, especially if you’re in a situation where the “best” recipe depends on circumstances or changes over time as the market shifts subtly.
We had some internal discussion about the new recipes:
The two HCB recipes are:
Each WAL and WRH take about the same time in a ASM. The W is definitely going to be driving the cost there, so it’s a bit of a bummer than the new recipe uses more W. Even if you ignore the neat logistical challenges around RE, I don’t think it’ll ever be as cheap as AL. (so you won’t save money/time using RE instead of AL). So I don’t think this one is a compelling use case for RE. SKF time for this recipe is longer also, but no one is ever constrained on SKF time.
The LCB recipe comparison is a bit more interesting.
On the CX, WRH is a bit over 3x the cost of AST, so the old recipe is probably better. the WRH recipe takes less ASM time, and Taiyi’s model (based on the base-area-time to produce), puts them about even. The extra SKF time of the new recipe (18hr to 21.5 hr) doesn’t really matter to most people. W has a tougher chain, so it’s not a slam dunk, but it’s borderline.
I think the AHP recipe is an interesting trade off. Unlike SKFs, HWPs can be constrained on time, especially when working on high end shields. Having the WRH recipe for AHP take less time than the FET based version might be a way to make that more interesting.
I totally agree - I was hoping that a mass of RE would REPLACE the W - and not increase the amount of W needed. This is the reason why I can’t commercially make 5k/5k ships - the W needed to build them just requires too much support - and BTS (at least in Moria space) is not easy to get to in volume - and then the mass of AML you would need to process it.
