Add way to restrict parliament

there are certain members who get on every planet for epeen, and they don’t contribute nor vote nor communicate. this delays motions because they refuse to engage, only applying for the prestige.

as such, i would like to propose a couple ideas, which haven’t had a ton of thought on them. these will obviously require refinement to close potential loopholes.

  • allow gov to motion to remove a member of parliament. this will require a 2/3rd rounded down majority to pass, this motion can only be run once per gov period and the individual is immediately removed on resolution, and is blocked from the next gov period as well.
  • make voting transparent, so we can lobby to the voters who may be simply voting for an incumbent
  • add the ability to downvote instead of upvote
  • motions pass on majority (either 50% or 2/3 majority, rounded down)

I like the first bit especially. A way to impeach officials would be nice.

Second item, no. People should feel they can vote in peace, without risk of harassment (and I put lobbying in that category) for who they voted for. Sometimes the incumbent is the best choice. We shouldn’t force people to vote for someone else just because they haven’t run before.

Third item, meh. Not a huge deal when you can just vote for someone else.

Fourth item, idk. There’s not really a big enough parliament that it matters, so I think that’s a matter of semantics more than anything. Also, motions do pass on majority, it’s just that abstaining effectively removes your vote from that count.

I think the purpose of that suggestion is that votes pass as soon as they reach a majority rather than waiting the full 24hr.

One other suggestion - add the ability to auto-abstain. That way people can set that once if they don’t feel like checking in for every vote.

Ah, that would make more sense

I think requiring a quorum of less than 100% would fix the most obnoxious issues with parliamentary voting. Allowing a planetary population to issue a recall could be interesting, but it would probably take more development effort than tweaking the quorum requirement.

not saying that this is a person with bad intent like certain others who just do it specifically to pad their resume, but a dozen planets or so will be needing new govs soon-the thing i really would like to see is the 4th bullet

To add to the screenshot: It’s not like the other vote would have any impact in that scenario. Votes with one governor and one MP are always decided in favor of the governor as far as I know.

In my opinion, the best way forward would be:

  1. Add auto-abstain: One can get voted and later decide to take a break from the game. Auto-abstain would allow this without slowing down government.
  2. Pass motions before everyone voted. Once a majority exists, the motion passes right away. The others can still vote to give their opinion, but can’t influence the result anymore. This feature could be a motion in itself - let each government decide if they want this majority behavior, or the old behavior.

I really like number 2.

Personally, I think votes should remain private. An impeachment would be interesting, but it would need to be carefully implemented to avoid abuse. I suggest: If an official is impeached, they are immediately removed from government. Additionally, they can only get into the next government if they are elected governor, i.e. they have the highest single number of votes.

Downvoting is unnecessary. I would very much like to have an automatic default vote for motions, though an auto-abstain may be safest.

I do not think that having a motion automatically succeed on obtaining a majority is a good idea, as the grace period exists to allow one to change their vote.

I like the idea of having motions auto pass once they reach over 50% of the votes because even when the other people would vote against it it wouldn’t change anything.

Having a “auto vote” setting depending on who starts the motion (default is none) would also be nice. For example when the gov or gate person starts a motion and my vote is automatically yes it will save time for all sides. Yes this could be abused but at the point where you get “auto yes”s you won’t get much from taking gov funds except having the community against you.

(low prio) it would be nice to have some kind of government reputation in game like the current company rating (if it would work more than A / not A, I have breached multiple contracts in the last few days worth over 1M and it didn’t move)
