Welcome to the Closed Steam Beta

Hello and welcome to the closed Steam Beta!

Before publishing Prosperous Universe to Steam we want to run a closed beta test to make sure the game works as intended. Here is a list of frequently asked questions to get you started!

Q: Who is eligible for the closed Steam Beta Test?

Any of our supporters with the Star or higher package is invited to participate in the test.

Q: How can I participate in the test?

You should have received an email with a Steam key. Open Steam, click “add a game”, click “activate a product on Steam” and enter the key.

Q: Which operating systems are supported?

Right now we support Microsoft Windows and Linux. A Mac version will be released at a later point in time.

Q: I am a star+ supporter but didn’t receive the email or just recently became a supporter, can I join the test?

Yes, absolutely, please get in touch with us, either via the forums or Discord.

Q: Which server does the Steam wrapper connect to?

By default the Steam wrapper connects to the live universe.

Q: Do I need to create a new account for the test?

No, please don’t. The Steam wrapper will allow you to connect your existing Prosperous Universe account during the first start. Please use your existing username and password to sign in.

Q: Can I use the Steam wrapper to connect to the test server?

Yes, that is possible. Right click Prosperous Universe in your library, select properties, then betas. In the drop down box you can choose between none (the live universe) and staging (the test server).

Q: Is it possible to buy a PRO subscription through the Steam wrapper?

Yes, absolutely. Open the LIC command and click “manage”, as usual.

Q: What should I test?

The goal of the test is to find out if the Windows and Linux versions of the game work as expected. To do that we suggest you play the game with the Steam wrapper for a few days and let us know any problems you encounter.

Q: Are there any known issues?

Yes, these are the known issues so far:

  • The fullscreen button is not working on Windows
  • Opening external links is not working
  • A command window pops up when starting on Windows. We’ll remove that soon

Q: Where should I post feedback?

Feel free to post any feedback in this topic.

It looks good so far. One suggestion I would have is to add a button to close/clear all popup buffer windows. On browser, this is simply accomplished by refreshing the window - but on Steam this is not possible.

Suggestion on how this could look:

Update: F5 still works, just this is not so obvious since it’s a steam game.
